Lessons In Music Theory

Lessons in Music Theory

Lessons in music theory are also available here in my piano studio south Dublin. Whether you would just like to learn how to read music from the simplest level or whether you would like to progress through to basic harmony and chord progressions or more complex 4 part harmony (SATB) and counterpoint/composition, all lessons will be tailored to each student’s individual requirements. A student may also wish to do graded theory examinations and all grades can be covered if the student wishes. The complete beginner to music theory would be taught the following basic principles:-

  • Learning how to write and use the sharp and flat signs.
  • Understanding the Major scales of C and G in both clefs and how major scales are constructed.
  • The understanding of the position of tones and semitones within the scales of C and G major.
  • To be familiar with the relevant tonic solfa names.
